About Goddess Durga

There are endless aspects of Devi Durga(or Godess Durga) described in the Puranas(Indian Mythology) and the iconography is consequently very varied. She represents the Mother of Universe, and thats why She is called Maa(Mother) Durga. Her most popular image is pictured as having ten arms holding Spear, Sword, Conch, Discus, Rosary, Bell, Winecup, Shielf, Bow & Arrow, riding a lion from which comes Her august name, Sinhavahini, posing to kill Mahisasur (A demon in the guise or a buffalo). She is dressed in royal red colored cloth and has several ornaments decorating Her personage. There is a crown (karandamukuta) to cover up Her head and hari, which then flows out in long luxuriant tresses that are darkly luminous and soothing to the eye. The gorgeous looks reflects the eminent supremacy that helps in controlling the universe and obey Her will.
