Mahalaya

Mahalaya is a holy occasion observed a week before the Durga Puja. This is an invitation to Goddess Durga to come down to the earth to accept the prayer of mankind. In India there used to be en early morning radio program named “Mahisasura Mardini” means “The Destroyer of Demon”. The program was a combination of recitation from the verses of “Chandi” with a series of Bengali songs sang by renouned artists of Bengal. The verses were recited by renouned radio personality “Sri Birendra Krishna Bhadra”. Sinse its introduction on 1930, Its been very hard for Bengalis to avoid listening Mahalaya in the morning
